However, as genre theorists have pointed out, texts are organized in specific ways and hold different grammar features depending on a series of factors: (a ) the purpose, (b) the discipline in which they are taught, (c) the expectations of instructors in particular classrooms and contexts, and (d) the mode (Schleppegrell, 2004). The teaching of writing through rote learning and memorization renders students incapable of attending to all of these factors and, therefore, makes them more vulnerable to criticisms about their writing.
